Act like a bee 

On my daily walk around the cranberry bog this morning, I came across beehive boxes and was reminded of a Walt Disney comment about his role in his business operation.  It has significance for every business owner and manager. 

Grow your business by pollinating 

Asked about his work ethic and role in building the Disney empire, Walt Disney said that his role was like that of a bee: he was simply a pollinator.  He said that every day he strolled around work areas trying to touch as many employees as possible. The touches?  A “how’s it going?”  A friendly hello.  A word of encouragement.  Now and then, a useful tip. 

Catch people doing something right 

The analogy is an appropriate one for every one with management responsibilities.  Bees and their pollination work are critical to bountiful plant growth.  Managing by walking around and catching people doing something right is critical to business growth.
