We recommend Managing by Values: How to put your values into action by Blanchard and O’Connor

How good is your recovery strategy when things in your agency go wrong?

Are your agency associates all on the same page?

Do you use a “command and demand” style or an approach that encourages more openness and acceptance of others ideas?

Ken Blanchard of One Minute Manager fame and Michael O’Connor with Jim Ballard authored Managing by Values in 1997. Today, the concepts are as vital as they were then.  Maybe more so.

The book stresses the importance of quality communications whose core is the organization’s stated mission and values and practical ways to put them to work everyday.  Blanchard and O’Connor demonstrate with the same easy-to-read technique used in the One Minute Manager books.

Mutual understanding creates a safe environment for associates, Blanchard and O’Connor point out.  The mantra?  Organizations should work toward creating safety and fostering empowerment for every associate.

“Walking the talk is an on-going journey’” is a message in Managing by Values that sticks
